10 1337 Licence Plates Still Available In NYS

It seems that good, technically-oriented custom licence plates are becoming as hard to grab as .com domain name these days. Here are ten that I have found that are still available in New York State as of this post.

This was inspired in part by a post on Digg.com of some cool plates that were found in the wild, and in part by the horrible time I had trying to find a plate I wanted. Though I have searched, I can't find the original article to reference but many similar sites are available by searching Google.

It is surprising how many plates are already taken. Any iteration of "p(o)wn" is gone. Even, of course, subtituting the regulars: 0 for o and 3 for e etc. That is what I wanted, specifically "powned", though I realized that it would have made sence to 1 out of every 10,000 drivers that found themselves behind me. It's the bonding between people that love tech that counts.

In NYS, we are able to order custon plates and check for their availablity online. The site is https://www.dmv.state.ny.us/personalizedPlates/EmpChoosePlate.cfm .
I'm sure each state has their own version of this. Here are a few I found still up for grabs.

How I watched the NFL game Thursday night

I love football. Always have. Dosen't even matter who's playing, I just love the game, and I can't get enough. I also pay $169 a month for cable access - access from a provider who does not supply the NFL network and by all accouts, will not anytime soon.

So I knew there was a game on Thursday night. After missing the Broncos-Cheifs game on T-day, I decided to see if the game was available on the internet. I had seen a lot of posts on Digg about sites that offered free cable access and so I started a search on Google to see if I could find one quickly. I typed in "watch nfl game pass". The first site was from tvover.net. Great!!!

The problem was that they only linked to sites that offered the service. -But..gREAT! I'm getting somewhere.

The first link was to the game being offered on Yahoo.com. Great! I have a free yahoo account. I can watch the game!

NO. You can not watch the game if you are a resident of the U.S., Canada, Maxico, Camen Islands, ETC. Dammit!

So I got to thinking, what if I used a proxy server from another part of the world, like the UK or France...

And I go back to Google and type in "proxy servers uk"... I get a list of proxy servers worldwide, from which I chose http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html
and from which chose to use address 1.255.210.188 port 3128.
( You add that to IE under Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections ->LAN settings )

I close all my windows, go back to the Yahoo page, and the game is there for me to buy, which I did for 24.99 US, a ripoff, but I just wanted to see if I could do it.

I could.

Firefox saved passwords for all to see

Most people take advantage of Firefox's abiltiy to store your passswords for the multitude of sites you visit. How many realize that those passwords are easily accessible to anyone with access to your computer?

Simply go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy and click on the VIEW SAVED PASSWORS button. Then choose Show Passwords. Firefox does you the favor of asking if you REALLY want to show the passwords.

Jeez...Thanks.

Here's a screenshot of mine:

This is obviously an intentional "feature". I don't understand how a browser that is boasted as being so secure can have something like this built into it. I just recently discovered this after months of using it.
